A Solas con Dios
Hermana Glenda
Description
Hermana Glenda, using only an acoustic guitar and her sweet, unadulterated voice, takes your hand and leads you into a one-on-one encounter with the Almighty. That's the power of A Solas con Dios "alone with God." This isn't the big-venue, high-tech, computerized, synthesized, amplified sound of today's top-40. It's a simple but gifted nun and her guitar, pouring out songs of love to our God. It's a celebration of the human voice and the word of God. You can't help but be drawn into worship.
Intended, she says in the liner notes, "to accompany you in personal and communal prayer," each of the 18 songs sung in clear, beautiful Spanish is a meditation on a particular verse from the Bible. It's a sort of musical lectio divina, her poetic reflections expertly unfolding the hidden layers of meaning.
Making generous use of the disc space, the album contains 19 tracks one is instrumental and more than 66 minutes of music. It includes the gorgeous "Nada Es Imposible para Ti," made popular at World Youth Day 2002 and included on the event's official CD, Light of the World/Lumière du Monde.
Sometimes, as in "Las Aguas no Podrán Apagar el Amor," she stops in the midst of a song to speak: "There is nothing in this world that's stronger than the love of God." The feeling is uncanny: You can feel her looking into your eyes, as if the two of you had just sat down together and she, inspired, began to play and sing. Whether you speak the language or not, it's a heartwarming, serene, intimate musical experience.
Includes bonus track: A Microsoft Word document containing a letter from Hermana Glenda and texts and chords for each song, plus pastoral suggestions for using the songs in group activities and in the liturgy.
