What is LOVE? Is it what we see on TV on our favorite shows? Is it what we read about in magazines? Is it what we listen to on the radio in our favorite love songs? True love is not what the media tells us. God gives us the best example and guidelines for what true love is.
Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, not pompous; it is not inflated, it is not rude; it does not seek its own interests; it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury, and it does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things. Love never fails. (1 Corinthians 13:4-8)
Love is patient: True love is patient and waits. If someone truly loves you, then they will be patient and wait for you. Love is kind: If someone loves you, then they will treat you with kindness. Love is not jealous and pompous: If you are with someone and they are quick tempered, it is only going to get worse as time passes. It won't get better. Love does not rejoice over your wrongdoings: True love will rejoice in your successes. If someone truly loves you, then they will bear all things with you, believe in you, share your hopes and stand by you.
The song Love Never Fails by Ken Canedo and Jesse Manibusan is a perfect song on what true love is all about.
Today we spend a lot of time in relationships that are not right for us. We stay in bad relationships because we think they will change or we don't want to be alone. The one true love relationship we need is our relationship with God. That is not always the easiest concept on which to hold. Being a single woman, in my mid 30's, it is hard sometimes to rely on God and have him fulfill my loneliness. I so badly long for a husband and children, it is all I have ever wanted. Growing up I wanted to be a mom and wife. I have always loved children. Not having any of my own has been very hard for me. Society and everyone around me says I should be married. I do want to be married but by God's will. I know that God will bring that right man into my life who is going to truly love me for who I am. So I will wait. The song Able by Sarah Hart says to me that God is able to fulfill those needs.
He alone is able, able to fulfill
everything I hope for, keeping in his will.
He will hold me close beside him even when I fail.
Oh, he alone is able to fulfill.
Able, my God is able, able to set my spirit free.
Looking past my failures, down into my heart,
he is able to love me.
God wants the best for each one of us. He wants us to have true love. Be open to a true love relationship with someone but, more importantly, be open to that truly loving relationship of God.
