Take Back Sundays

Robert Feduccia

Take back Sundays — what the heck?! I was recently reading in Billboard magazine about musicians who are playing in New York City on Sunday mornings for what amounts to breakfast concerts. After these concerts, the attendees go out and perform service as a part of "Take Back Sunday" events.

Holy Spirit Stained GlassI do believe that the Holy Spirit is at work in both the sacred and secular. The Holy Spirit works most explicitly within the Church, the body of Christ. But the Holy Spirit is not limited to explicit action of the Church. The Holy Spirit moves and blows as it wills . . . but! Why has the secular music business stepped in to take back Sundays?

I think the secular music business sees the Church as only being worried about people's "souls" and not their "bodies." The article said they want to do something "practical."

OK, point taken. More and more I am realizing that we are not body AND soul. We are bodysouls. We are unified. To serve someone's bodily needs serves their soul. Take back Sundays? You bet! Let our worship lead to service! Let our all people of good will join we Christians as we show the world what the Kingdom of God looks like. Unity. Peace. Service.
