Kneeling

Bob Halligan, Jr.

"Kneeling" started as a less political animal than it ended up to be. I was picturing any situation of turning to friends/family for advice, when turning to God would have been the better choice. I sang the original beginning bits to the missus (words I can't even remember now) and she said: "I think it should be, 'You ask me what I think of the war.'" Thus the beginning of another beautiful collaboration between me and my gal! I will say it scared me at first — politics can be so off-putting and divisive. But this is the whole point of "Kneeling": Don't be a "smooth operator," don't think "spin" or angle. Think what God wants!

This is the most exciting Hooli-song ever for me, because it seems to have come at a time when the world really needs it. I pray that some of the world hears it, especially folks who make big decisions that affect us all. Think how it would be if world leaders made their decisions based on a truly spiritual perspective. Here's hopin' we snag a few!!

Lyrics

You ask me what I think of the war.
You ask me what I think it was for.
You ask me what I think of our policies.
My position, my only position is . . .

Kneeling,
my position is kneeling.
My position is kneeling.

You ask me what I think of the Right.
You ask me what I think of what's Left.
You ask me what I think of your certainties.
My position, my only position is . . .

Kneeling,
my position is kneeling.
My position is kneeling.

You say I must stand up for what I believe,
but when I stand up,
well, I'm down on my knees.
