Vince Nims

Vince Nims Ask any Catholic youth group member who “The Banana Guy” is and you will most likely receive a broad grin. The Banana Guy is that fun singer from the recent diocesan youth rally who led a cathedral full of teenagers in a rollicking round of the game “Aye, aye, sir!” He’s the DJ whose creative disc spinning had everyone on the dance floor, even the shy ones. He’s the great storyteller whose faith experiences can move even a reluctant teen to laughter and tears. He has performed at World Youth Day and Dodger Stadium. And he’s the guy who sings that song, “I Like Bananas,” truly one of the most hilarious group-participation songs in Catholic youth ministry today.

“I want to move kids toward Christ. That’s the ultimate goal,” said the hard-working always-on-the-road youth minister. “I try to bring hope, combined with something tangible that they can connect with, something that is filled with Christ. And I try to make it fun.” Vince gets the job done with the help of his Religious Studies degree, fatherhood, over ten years of parish and diocesan youth ministry experience, and astute pizza connoisseur skills. He proclaims “We are ready as we’ll ever be to embrace God!” Vince’s real-life messages bring crowds to an attentive, softhearted, silly place. He’s bold, however, and puts the Gospel on the table, encouraging listeners to join in the feast.

Living life fully with equal amounts of music and laughter, Vince makes his home in Fremont, California with his wife Kim and their daughter Veronica.
