The Wait

Well today's the day.  The "Waiting" is over.  I'm not sure if anyone has really even been waiting besides me, but I gotta tell you - I'm glad its here.

So here's the deal.  I believe in giving God the best that I have to offer.  I wrote over 40 songs for this CD, recorded demos of them and gave them to friends and family and asked "What are your favorites?"  I wanted to be confident that the 12 songs on this CD are the best that I co...

Workcamp in St Louis

I spent last week in St. Louis, MO doing music for a Catholic Heart Work Camp.  I wanted to take a minute to let you know about some friends I made while I was there.  Bernard, Bridget, Caroline, John, Julie, Myrna, Nick, Stephanie, Steve, and Wayne (God help me if I left anyone out - they'll all water balloon my house) are a staff of college students who hit the road this summer with the CHWC.  Here's a run down of their summer:  They arrive at a site (usually a high scho...

Successful Eburn (almost)

Apparently the eburn the picture campaign was a huge success.  Spirit and Song web editor extraordinaire, Ken Canedo was swamped with emails that said “Eburn the picture.”  He responded by sending me an email saying “Call off the troops!  I surrender!”  I called him a few days later, and we had a good laugh about it.  He’s such a good sport.  I really didn’t think anyone would take that blog seriously.  Anyway, he sent wor...

Eburn the picture

7-28-06

Here's the deal.  If you have never been to my page on spiritandsong.com you need to go there right now and look at the picture.  The link is www.spiritandsong.com/artists/joshuablakesley

I think I took this picture when I was 20 years old.  I'm 29 right now, turning 30 in October (I know… 30 - arrghhhh), which means that picture is almost 10 years old.  So I'm starting the "Eburn the Picture" pe...

Katrina: LA dealing

I've heard that we will be, if not already, hosting 20-30,000 refugees in Alexandria. Today I went to visit some of those housed in our parish coliseum, the same coliseum where the Steubenville South conference is held annually. It was a very different sight today. It is hard to put into words how absolutely heart-wrenching it is. I visited Holy Savior Menard Catholic High School where there are residents from a nursing home in New Orleans taking shelter. They are retired priests and nuns who...

Katrina vs. Our Lady of Prompt Succor

When I'm not gallivanting around trying to proclaim Christ's message to the nations, I work for Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church in Alexandria, LA. It's a medium-sized parish with about 1200 families. Last night we planned to have our Sunday evening mass outside followed by a back to school Luau. On the morning of the event I received a few phone calls asking if the festivities would still occur. It seemed Hurricane Katrina was headed toward our little state and there was cause for concern. <...

Ukulele

The thing about musicians is that we're easy to buy gifts for. Any occasion - Christmas, birthdays, anniversaries - anything musical makes the perfect present. I guess that was Heather's (my wife) line of thinking when she bought me a ukulele for our 6th wedding anniversary last week.

Unfortunately, the other thing about musicians is that the obsession of trying to learn our instrument is exactly what makes us musicians. So, you can imagine Heather is already deeply regretting having ...

Sophie

Well I've got a pretty good reason for taking such a long time in between blogs. She's almost 5 months old now and already she rules the house. I'm happy to introduce the first addition to the Blakesley family: Sophie.

Ya' know, "they" tell you it changes your life. You think you understand what "they" mean, so you wave off the 4 billion people that say that. Then along comes baby and all of a sudden you realize what they meant. This really changes your life. Everything that was ...

www.JoshuaSong.com

After a lot of hard work from the seminary intern here at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church. Joshua Ministries has a newly designed website. Ryan Humphries is on the road to being a priest within the next year or so and has been doing his internship at OLPS. It just so happens that he is a whiz on computers. So, with the design help of his friend from seminary (and an ol' chum of mine from Baton Rouge), Chris Decker, the site is live and working. These guys are good! Check it out....
