Lyrics

Surely you smiled

When he arrived,

The moment you first kissed his holy face.

Surely you wept

At his first steps,

Knowing he would walk his own road one day.

You must have sighed

With pain, with pride,

As he grew more like his Father every day.

And when he'd grown,

Oh, you let go,

For you understood the reason that he came.

Beautiful Mother,

Comforter, friend;

Is there another

Who could better understand?

When we weep or we worry,

When we fail or we fly,

We are beautiful mothers,

Beautiful in his eyes.

Our children grow

As each day goes,

We catch glimpses of ourselves in all they are.

Their worlds revolve

Around our love,

So we strive to give the best within our hearts.

But we fall down;

We lose our ground,

Then somehow find the strength to get up.

And in those times,

Gently remind us

That we are also children of God.

So as you hoped, let us hope;

And as you prayed, let us pray.

And as you loved, let us always love

Our children in this way.
