Lyrics

Refrain
Healing waters, flow over me.
Mercy’s water, renewing me.
Mercy’s ocean, transforming me.
Healing water, renew me.
1. Renew my heart, O God,
come change my hardened heart,
come fill my hardened heart with mercy.
You are the water of life.
You are the breath of heaven,
come fill my hardened heart with mercy, Lord.
2. Wash me in waters of love;
cleanse me and purify me,
for only you can cleanse me, Lord.
Wash over me, O Lord.
Refresh my thirsty soul
for you alone can make me holy, Lord.

Artist Reflection

It's a beautiful day today; clear blue skies with a slight chill in the air. The Los Angeles skyline can be seen from miles away. The San Gabriels stand like soldiers saluting the sunrise. Today's glorious brilliance is a result of a rainstorm that passed through this busy city last night; washing off the smog and the dirt; and giving this city a rain-washed beauty that I never get tired of.

This brings to mind an image of our thirsty souls, burdened and weary at times, wanting to become beautiful. Our souls crave the healing touch of God. When we ask for God's mercy and forgiveness, we are asking to be washed clean again. We are brought once again to the pool of our Baptism, a sacred pool of healing water that makes us new again. A place where God can immerse even the most hardened heart; flooding it until it begins to soften. And when the water recedes, it leaves love and purity, hope and joy.

May this Lenten journey bring us back to the waters of mercy.
