The refrain has become a constantly repeated prayer for...truly beautiful.

When I feel overwhelmed by duties, by people, by life I listen to this song over and over again. A prayer goes out to TJ for giving me this album...especially this song.

When I am stuck in traffic on the Expressway, Jesus I Trust In You and Our Lady of Guadalupe keeps me from road rage. Maybe that sounds funny, but these two songs are a balm to the stresses of life. Helps me keep focused on the real reason we are here.

Lyrics

Jesus, I trust in you giver of mercy
Jesus, I trust in you, O font of life.
Healer, teacher, Savior and friend,
Jesus, I trust in you
all that I am is in your hands.

Let not this heart be troubled,
but let it rest in you
For with you, every sorrow will be washed away.
Let not my mind be burdened,
but set it free with truth,
for every care is lost in understanding grace.
Jesus, I trust in you...

As you gave up yourself, Lord
into your father's hands,
so let me give myself to all that is your will.
And as you emptied yourself,
fulfill Love's perfect plan,
let me be emptied that my life might be fulfilled.
Jesus, I trust in you...

Artist Reflection

This song was inspired by the Chaplet of Divine Mercy which was given by Jesus to St. Faustina Kowalski who was born in 1905 in Poland.  The essence of the Divine Mercy Devotion is trust and mercy.

Trust:  “It is simply the attitude of a child who trusts boundlessly in the merciful love and omnipotence of the Heavenly Father in every situation.” [St. Faustina Kowalski]

Mercy: Jesus told Sister Faustina, “Know that My Heart is mercy itself.  From this sea of mercy, graces flow out upon the whole world… I desire that your heart be an abiding place of My mercy.”

I had wanted to write a song using texts from this prayer. Sarah Hart told me that she was interested in collaborating and asked if I had any ideas. I asked if she was interested in writing lyrics based upon the Chaplet of Divine Mercy.  She told me that she just happened to have that book out and felt  perhaps it was a sign of confirmation.

She sent me a tape with a beautiful a cappella version of the refrain. She also sent me a wonderful written text to the verses. I added chords to the refrain and wrote the melody and chords to the verses. The melody and harmony came very quickly, almost as if it was writing itself.

I am very grateful to have had the chance to work with Sarah.  And also to see this chaplet become more fully dispersed.  Jesus, I trust in You!
