I enjoy this song. It calms the soul. It makes you think of God especially in rough times.

Lyrics

Refrain
We ever will praise you;
we ever will sing
sweet psalms of joy
to you, our king.
O Maker of heaven,
of earth and the sea,
sweet psalms of joy
we ever will sing.
1. Happy are those
whose helper is
the Lord who ever was
and evermore shall be.
All who are blind,
well, they shall see,
the prisoners set free,
the hungry, they shall eat.
2. Blessed are those
whose hope is in the Lord;
the lowly shall be raised,
the fatherless sustained.
Loved are the ones
who live in righteousness,
the widowed and the orphaned,
they are not forsaken.

Artist Reflection

I woke up in the middle of the night with the melody of the refrain playing in my head. Although I was tired, I jotted down the melody so that I wouldn't forget it in the morning. This melody has a bit of Celtic tonality to it. It feels very solid and anthem-like. (Thanks God!)

A few months later, there was a need to come up with a setting for this psalm. It just seemed to fall into place. That is the only time I've ever experienced waking up with a melody in my head. I honestly feel that it was inspired by our Lord. The event that we ended up using the psalm setting for was a youth rally called Inspiration. This rally has since spread throughout the country under the direction of Steve Allgeyer, Director of Life Support and Special Events for Life Teen.

While in the studio, I found that this was one of the most difficult songs to arrange, as I was tempted to overwork it. I was happy with the final version. I had the opportunity to work with some excellent musicians in Chicago. I especially enjoy the accordion part on the song. I feel it gives it a very warm sound.

Jesus tells us that we will spend eternity in joyful praise. I'm thankful that we are given the grace here and now to praise him in song. We ever will praise You!
