Lyrics

Here I am walking in your path
I hear your holy name calling me.
I put myself out on the line
but I am blind and I cannot see.

As I step out onto the waters
Your grace holds firm and it carries me
The wind and waves are only growing stronger
But I'm losing faith and I'm stumbling.

Holiness doesn't come from me
Your love alone can set me free
Keepin' my eyes firmly fixed on you
I'm depending on you

To rescue me from deep waters
I am in over my head.
Angry currents rage around me
O and I can't save myself
Rescue me.

A wave of fear and doubt have overcome me
Beneath the surface life is slipping away.
I take a breath in my desperation
And cry out to you for your saving grace.

I see your hand reaching for me through the storm
I wanna surrender, just don't let me go!

Artist Reflection

You know how you sometimes feel like you are in over your head with life? Keeping bills paid, over committing, and feeling emotionally drained? Well, "Rescue Me" came at one of those times.

I was working at my church, my girlfriend just broke up with me, I was playing trumpet four nights a week in a Top 40 band, and I was in the final stages of training for my first triathlon. I was stressed out and fearing imminent drowning on the Mile Swim that I was going to take during the race. "Coincidentally," at Mass I heard the scripture about Peter jumping out of the boat and walking on water. It stayed with me for a long time. I definitely felt like I was in over my head and the storm was getting wilder. Feeling completely out of control in my life, I had to look to Jesus and reach out for him in prayer. Fixing my eyes on him truly helped me get through the triathlon and all of the storms of depression and anger that I was experiencing over time. Christ was right in the center, in the midst of the storm, calling me to a deeper faith. He saved me.

Oh Lord, continue to save me from myself. Increase my faith and rescue me because so often I'm in over my head.
