Prepare my heart, Lord.

Lyrics

Refrain
Ready the way, ready the way,
ready the way of the Lord.
Ready the way, ready the way,
ready the way of the Lord.
1. Make straight the road,
raise the valleys, and mountains make low.
Turning from sin, let the broken be whole,
and ready the way of the Lord.
2. As we wait for you,
give us the strength to walk in your truth,
so we may love more like you
and ready the way for you, Lord.
3. Let us see your face;
in our hearts we prepare a place.
Come bring this world
your mercy and grace,
as we ready the way for you, Lord.

Artist Reflection

Advent is one of my favorite seasons... I think it is highly underrated too... I mean with Christmas right around the corner, I don't think most of us really get a chance to absorb the meaning of this time of preparation. There are so many great scripture readings and practical steps for us to take in our spiritual lives.

Every year we hear the words of the prophet Isaiah, "Every valley shall be filled and every mountain and hill made low... Then the glory of the Lord shall be revealed... Go up on to a high mountain Zion and herald glad tidings; cry out at the top of your voice, Jerusalem, herald the good news!"

In this year of holiday trees and secularized celebrations Isaiah's words seem to be more relevant than ever. In the grocery store, I heard a manager scold an employee of 15 years about wishing me a Merry Christmas. It was a wake up call to me to be ever more courageous and mindful about keeping Christ in the center of everything I do this season. It reminds me of how desperate our world really needs the person we celebrate at Christmas and the gifts HE brings.

Somewhere beneath the decorations and ribbons and "holiday" tree is the loving God who humbled himself to become one of us and witness to the truth of his love. Let us long for his coming. Let us all be prepared in heart and mind to receive him. Let us truly ready his way by heralding the glad tidings to a world so desperately in need of his love and peace.
