Artist Reflection
This song is an act of contrition, acknowledging my shortcomings and weaknesses, asking God to remove all that separates me from Christ's grace. The CD Persuaded is a cathartic journey from doubt to trust and from fear to faith. This, the second song, is in the early stages of that conversion. The song lists some of the more insidious barriers we face: ambition, distraction, indecision, inattentiveness. In our busy lives, perhaps we don't notice our sins of omission. Do we look for firm ground or wind up slipping in sand? Do we make a commitment to our faith and our family or do we find ourselves wishing? In our humility, in our surrender, in our bowing down before God, do we find our courage, our strength and our redemption? We tried to give the tracks an impressionistic vibe, reflecting the paradox of unfocused mindset and yet the firm realization that without God's hand, we float aimlessly. I had to work hard on this lyric. Each line of the verses includes internal rhymes as well as final word rhymes. i.e., . . . O see me as I slip on sandy ground - TR Smith |
